The Rangers designated Barnhart for assignment Sunday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Scouting Report
Displays excellent receiving skills for the catching position, plus he has an outstanding throwing arm. He also has quick feet and the release to throw out runners. Despite switch-hitting ability, his bat may not be an asset at the big-league level. In particular, he struggles against left-handed pitching and lacks major home-run power.
Long Range Potential: Solid catcher.
