President of baseball operations Chris Young said Eovaldi (elbow) is "trending in the right direction" after throwing a bullpen session Saturday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Eovaldi (triceps) and the Rangers hope he can throw a bullpen session this weekend, MLB.com reports.
Throws very hard (he can hit triple digits with his fastball) and can rack up impressive strikeout totals. Can also be effective pitching to contact when he keeps the ball down in the zone. Can struggle a bit with his control (simply put, he walks too many batters), which hurts his overall effectiveness in the bigs. Does not have a dominant strikeout pitch. Injuries can be an issue.
Long Range Potential: Solid right-hander, when healthy.
