The Rays signed Barrera to a minor-league contract Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Scouting Report
An excellent athlete, he excels as a receiver, game caller and defensive backstop. He has leadership skills, soft hands, great footwork and a quick release for throwing out runners. He struggles to hit for a solid batting average but he does boast a little bit of home-run pop. Can draw a walk but he strikes out a fair amount.
Long Range Potential: Talented defensive catcher with a little upside.
