HANNAHAN TO SEATTLE
The Seattle Mariners acquired third baseman Jack Hannahan from the Oakland Athletics for pitcher Justin Souza.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
The Mariners need offense all around, but especially from the third-base spot while key lineup anchor Adrian Beltre is out nursing a shoulder injury. Journeyman Chris Woodward hasn't been doing much lately filling in, so Hannahan will likely be the lefty side of a veteran platoon at third until Beltre gets back in the lineup.
What does it give the Oakland Athletics
Souza is a solid righty who has pitched well (mostly as a starter) for Double-A West Tennessee this sesaon, going 6-6 with a 3.35 ERA and 62 strikeouts (against just 18 walks) over 78 innings pitched. He gives Oakland another arm for depth, epsecially since Hannahan was deemed expendable.
