IAN ANDERSON FOR JOSE SUAREZ

The Los Angeles Angels acquired pitcher Ian Anderson from the Atlanta Braves for pitcher Jose Suarez.

What does it give the Los Angeles Angels
In Anderson, the Angels pick up a depth right-handed starter who could still have some upside. With the Braves, he was never able to replicate the success he had as a rookie in 2021, missing time to Tommy John surgery and pitching in the minors afterward. The change of scenery might help Anderson, but he will not join the Angels' rotation right away. He could have to prove himself in the bullpen or with Triple-A Salt Lake.

What does it give the Atlanta Braves
Suarez provides the Braves with a depth left-handed pitcher. He has worked as a multi-inning reliever and spot starter during the past few seasons, although he has been too hittable and tends to issue too many walks. Atlanta does lack southpaw relief options, so Suarez could earn a low-leverage role this season. However, he will likely spend much of the 2025 season in the minors.

Fantasy impact
For now, this trade will not have much of an impact in fantasy leagues. Anderson in particular could be worth keeping an eye on if the Angels give him a chance in their starting rotation.
