ROBERTSON ADDED BY THE ASTROS
The Houston Astros acquired pitcher Nick Robertson from the Toronto Blue Jays for pitcher Edinson Batista.
What does it give the Houston Astros
Robertson will add some bullpen depth for the Astros. The right-hander has changed teams quite often the past few seasons, managing a 5.30 ERA in 27 MLB games along the way. He tends to allow too many baserunners but does have decent strikeout ability. The 26-year-old will likely spend most of the season in the minors, though he might earn a call up if he impresses with Houston.
What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto designated Robertson for assignment before this trade, so they did well acquiring a younger pitcher in return. Batista, 22, was an international signing in 2019. The right-hander has worked as both a starter and a reliever, but he has struggled to find much consistency in the lower levels of the minors. Perhaps a change of scenery will help his development.
