The Atlanta Braves acquired pitcher Michael Petersen from the Los Angeles Angels for cash.
What does it give the Atlanta Braves
In Petersen, the Braves add a depth right-handed reliever. The 30-year-old made his MLB debut in the 2024 season but struggled in 19.2 IP (5.95 ERA, 1.63 WHIP). Atlanta could call on Petersen if their bullpen is underperforming or overwhelmed by injuries. However, Petersen is likely to pitch primarily in the minors moving forward.
What does it give the Los Angeles Angels
It was a short-lived stay for Petersen in Los Angeles. They claimed him off waivers but ended up designating him for assignment a few weeks later. He hadn't pitched well for their Triple-A affiliate early in the season, so the Angels did fine here getting some cash in return.
