BRAVES ADD DEPTH CATCHER DELAY
The Atlanta Braves acquired catcher Jason Delay from the Pittsburgh Pirates for cash.
What does it give the Atlanta Braves
Delay adds some catching depth to Atlanta's organization. The 30-year-old has never contributed a lot on offense, but he is a decent defender. He could be a useful veteran call up in case of an injury or if the Braves need a third catcher. Delay was optioned following the trade.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
Pittsburgh has quite a bit of catching depth with Joey Bart, Henry Davis and Endy Rodriguez, so they ended up designating Delay for assignment prior to this trade. Delay had been in the organization since 2017, but since he is just a depth catcher at this point, the Pirates got only cash in return from the Braves.
Fantasy impact
This trade has no fantasy impact. Delay is not a factor on offense and is unlikely to see much playing time for the Braves.
