The Cleveland Guardians acquired pitcher Cody Bolton from the Seattle Mariners for cash.
What does it give the Cleveland Guardians
Bolton reinforces Cleveland's bullpen depth. The right-hander has some MLB experience (5.40 ERA in 33 games) and can work as a multi-inning reliever. He has decent strikeout ability, but has been too hittable and allows lots of walks. That has kept Bolton mostly in the minor leagues. He'll be a similar depth option in the Guardians organization.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
Bolton had been pitching for Seattle's Triple-A affiliate, but they designated him for assignment before this deal. The Mariners acquired him in a similar trade for cash in 2023, and they will move forward with cash coming in return this time.
