COSGROVE IS NOW A CUB
The Chicago Cubs acquired pitcher Tom Cosgrove from the San Diego Padres for cash.
What does it give the Chicago Cubs
In Cosgrove, the Cubs bring in a depth left-handed reliever. He had a breakout 2023 campaign with the Padres (1.75 ERA in 51.1 IP), but couldn't sustain that success at all in 2024. He has been pitching at Triple-A ever since to middling results. If Cosgrove can improve in the minors with the Cubs, he might get another look in their MLB bullpen.
What does it give the San Diego Padres
Cosgrove appeared to have promise as an MLB-calibre left-hander, but his performance fell off and the Padres DFA'd him just before this trade. San Diego also has one of the deepest bullpens in the league, so they will take cash here and free up Cosgrove's roster spot.
Fantasy impact
This trade won't have a fantasy impact for now, as Cosgrove will pitch in the minor leagues. He'd need to work his way back to the MLB before any getting any consideration in fantasy leagues.
