The Chicago White Sox acquired infielder Gage Workman from the Chicago Cubs for cash.
What does it give the Chicago White Sox
In Workman, the White Sox bring in a depth infielder with some versatility. The 25-year-old can play 2B, 3B and SS and has posted decent offensive numbers in the minors. He'd just made his MLB debut with the Cubs, going 3-for-14 with 1 SB in 9 games. Workman could now have a better opportunity to prove himself with the White Sox.
What does it give the Chicago Cubs
The Cubs selected Workman in the 2024 Rule 5 draft, but he wasn't a long-term fit, even as a bench player. They designated him for assignment prior to this trade and were able to get some cash back from the White Sox.
Fantasy impact
Workman had some moderate home run and stolen base seasons in the minors (18 HR and 30 SB in 2024), but he is just battling for an MLB bench job. That will keep him off the fantasy radar.
