The New York Mets acquired pitcher Jose Castillo from the Arizona Diamondbacks for cash.
What does it give the New York Mets
The Mets bullpen is dealing with injuries, and they only had one left-handed reliever prior to this trade. Castillo gives them another southpaw, and he has some MLB experience (5.21 ERA in 45 games). He also struggled in 5 games with Arizona this season, so he will likely only be a depth option for New York in long or middle relief.
What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
Castillo joined Arizona's bullpen just recently but allowed 8 ER in 6.1 IP. That poor performance led the Diamondbacks to designate him for assignment. They got some cash in return for the reliever.
