A'S GET AUSTIN WYNNS
The Athletics acquired catcher Austin Wynns from the Cincinnati Reds for cash.
What does it give the Athletics
The Athletics improve their catching depth with the addition of Wynns. Starter Shea Langeliers will be spending time on the injured list, so Wynns will give them a more experienced catcher to fill in. Wynns was also having a surprisingly hot start to the season (hitting .400 with 3 HR and 11 RBI in 40 AB), so he could see a fair amount of playing time until Langeliers returns.
What does it give the Cincinnati Reds
The Reds brought in Wynns while Tyler Stephenson was injured. But with their catching tandem now healthy, Wynns wasn't a fit on their roster, even after his nice start. The veteran changes teams often, so Cincinnati only secured some cash for him from the Athletics.
Fantasy impact
Wynns is unlikely to sustain his hot hitting, and he shouldn't be much more than a backup catcher for the A's. That will keep him off the fantasy radar.
