In Hoffman, the Phillies bring in a depth pitcher who has shown some promise in the minors. The right-hander has yet to make his MLB debut, but he has impressive strikeout ability. At the same time, he walks far too many batters and has a 5.91 ERA so far in 2025. Philadelphia must still like Hoffman's potential, as they also added him to their 40-man roster with this trade.
What does it give the Texas Rangers
Hoffman signed a minor-league contract with Texas ahead of the 2025 season. He wasn't getting a look with their MLB pitching staff, so the Rangers did fine trading him for some cash from the Phillies.
