DUNNING DEALT TO ATLANTA

The Atlanta Braves acquired pitcher Dane Dunning from the Texas Rangers for pitcher Jose Ruiz and cash.

What does it give the Atlanta Braves
In Dunning, the Braves pick up a depth right-hander with MLB experience. The 30-year-old was a serviceable starter for a few season in Texas, but he has struggled with inconsistency lately and spent time in the minors. He had a 3.37 ERA in 10.2 IP with the Rangers this season. Dunning could hold down a multi-inning or middle-relief role in Atlanta's bullpen if he pitches well.

What does it give the Texas Rangers
The Rangers are moving on from Dunning and will take a chance on another right-hander in Ruiz. He has been an effective MLB reliever at times, but he had a disastrous start to 2025 (8.82 ERA and 1.96 WHIP in 16.1 IP). This change of scenery could be what he needs. Ruiz will start out in the minors, however. The Braves also sent cash to the Rangers to get this deal done.

Fantasy impact
This trade won't have a fantasy impact. Both Dunning and Ruiz are just battling to re-establish themselves as MLB pitchers.
