NAYLOR SENT TO SEATTLE
The Seattle Mariners acquired first baseman Josh Naylor from the Arizona Diamondbacks for pitchers Brandyn Garcia and Ashton Izzi.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
Seattle was not getting a lot of offense from their first basemen this season, so Naylor will be a big upgrade there. The 28-year-old has been among baseball's most consistent run producers in recent seasons. He may end up being a rental for the Mariners, but he is a quality addition for the middle of the order.
What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
Arizona is beginning to sell amid an inconsistent season. They were able to improve their pitching depth with this trade. The prospects they brought in are not ranked highly, but Garcia, a left-hander, is on the verge of getting a look in the MLB bullpen. Izzi was a fourth-round draft pick in 2022 and is working as a starter still in High Single-A ball.
Fantasy impact
Naylor's fantasy value could take a small hit after this trade, as he will now play home games in a pitcher-friendly ballpark in Seattle. Even so, he should remain a solid option at first base in all fantasy formats. Arizona's new pitchers are not on the fantasy radar.
