TIGERS PICK UP PADDACK
The Detroit Tigers acquired pitchers Chris Paddack and Randy Dobnak from the Minnesota Twins for catcher Enrique Jimenez.
What does it give the Detroit Tigers
With Reese Olson heading to the injured list and the back of the rotation struggling, the Tigers needed starting pitching reinforcements. Enter Paddack. The veteran right-hander is usually a serviceable number four or five starter. He should now step into that role with Detroit. Paddack had a 4.95 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in 21 starts with the Twins this season. As for Dobnak, he will provide additional pitching depth in the minors.
What does it give the Minnesota Twins
The Twins are selling after a disappointing stretch of games ahead of the trade deadline. Paddack was not having a great year and will be a rental for Detroit, so Minnesota got back just one prospect here. Jimenez is a 19-year-old catcher from Venezuela, signed by the Tigers in 2023. He should now be among the better young catchers in Minnesota's organization.
Fantasy impact
Paddack will get a small boost from this trade. He is moving to a more pitcher-friendly park in Detroit and should have a better chance at picking up wins. Even so, he should only be rostered in deeper fantasy leagues. Jimenez and Dobnak can be ignored for now.
