TYLER ROGERS TO THE METS

The New York Mets acquired pitcher Tyler Rogers from the San Francisco Giants for pitchers Jose Butto and Blade Tidwell, and outfielder Drew Gilbert.

What does it give the New York Mets
In Rogers, the Mets bring in one of the best setup men in baseball. The veteran right-hander is durable, consistent and should pitch important innings for New York. They did pay a high price to get him, but Rogers (with his 1.80 ERA) should be a key bullpen arm as the Mets try to make a deep playoff run this season.

What does it give the San Francisco Giants
It will be difficult to replace Rogers, but the Giants did pretty well on this return. Butto is a versatile right-hander who can pitch multiple innings out of the bullpen (and could still be a starter longer term). Tidwell was among New York's better pitching prospects, though his first MLB starts went very poorly this season. Still, he is just 24 years old and gets to reset after this trade. As for Gilbert, he is a noted outfield prospect who had a down year in 2024. Lots of potential here for the Mets.

Fantasy impact
As good as Rogers has been, he could lose some value after this trade. The Mets are loading up their bullpen ahead of the trade deadline, so he may not be a lock for as many holds as usual. On the other hand, the three new Giants are not currently factors in fantasy baseball. Wait and see on how San Francisco uses Butto. Tidwell and Gilbert are still trying to prove themselves in the minors, and could take time at the MLB level.
