FERGUSON SENT TO SEATTLE

The Seattle Mariners acquired pitcher Caleb Ferguson from the Pittsburgh Pirates for pitcher Jeter Martinez.

What does it give the Seattle Mariners
Ferguson provides the Mariners with a depth left-hander in the bullpen. The 29-year-old pitched well for the Pirates this season, posting a 3.74 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 43.1 IP. Likely, Ferguson will be the second southpaw on Seattle's depth chart after Gabe Speier, so he could see more work in middle relief.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates are well out of contention this season, so they will add a younger pitcher to their organization. Martinez was an international signing in 2023. A right-handed starter, he had success in Rookie Ball last season, but has had a tough go at Low Single-A Ball in 2025 (6.18 ERA). He is still just 19 years old, so perhaps he can get back on track with his new team.

Fantasy impact
Ferguson is joining a deeper bullpen in Seattle, so he may no longer see many opportunities for holds. He will only have value in the deepest of fantasy leagues, since he usually strikes out close to a batter per inning. Martinez is not on the fantasy radar.
