SUAREZ GOES BACK TO SEATTLE

The Seattle Mariners acquired infielder Eugenio Suarez from the Arizona Diamondbacks for infielder Tyler Locklear and pitchers Hunter Cranton and Juan Burgos.

What does it give the Seattle Mariners
Suarez returns to Seattle, two seasons after they traded him to Arizona. The veteran is having a huge season with 36 home runs before the trade deadline, and the Mariners needed that power (again) at third base. As they push for the playoffs down the stretch, their lineup is now a lot more threatening with Suarez and recent addition Josh Naylor in it.

What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
For Arizona, this return for Suarez is a bit underwhelming, but he is just a rental in Seattle. Locklear is the headliner. A second-round pick in 2022, he is a first baseman who can hit for power and get on base, but his upside may be limited. Cranton and Burgos are right-handers who are lower ranked prospects. Still, the Diamondbacks have been trying to improve their pitching, and this deal gets them two more relievers who might contribute in coming seasons.

Fantasy impact
Suarez's value could take a small hit, as he moves from hitter-friendly Arizona to a pitchers park. Still, he proved in the past he can hit for power for Seattle, and he should remain a top home-run hitter the rest of the year. Arizona's new prospects aren't on the fantasy radar, but Locklear could soon get a look with the Diamondbacks. Wait and see how he does. His first MLB call-up in 2024 did not go well.
