FINNEGAN DEALT TO DETROIT

The Detroit Tigers acquired pitcher Kyle Finnegan from the Washington Nationals for pitchers Josh Randall and RJ Sales.

What does it give the Detroit Tigers
In Finnegan, the Tigers add a veteran high-leverage reliever. The right-hander has been clutch for the Nationals the past few seasons, despite typically having an ERA higher than is ideal for a closer. Detroit has been without an established closer this season, but Will Vest has pitched well and seen most save opportunities lately. Finnegan should be in the late-inning mix along with Vest for the rest of the season.

What does it give the Washington Nationals
The Nationals are still rebuilding, and they will add two younger pitchers as they move on from Finnegan. Both Randall and Sales are right-handed starters. They are not highly ranked prospects, but Washington could use this added potential in the organization.

Fantasy impact
Finnegan likely loses some fantasy value after this trade, as he may not be the primary closer in Detroit. If he can secure that role, however, he would get a boost collecting saves for one of the top teams this season. As for the new Nationals prospects, they are not on the fantasy radar at this time.
