JAKE BIRD TO THE BRONX

The New York Yankees acquired pitcher Jake Bird from the Colorado Rockies for infielder Roc Riggio and pitcher Ben Shields.

What does it give the New York Yankees
Bird adds some depth and experience to the Yankees bullpen. He has managed to post serviceable numbers for the Rockies in recent seasons, despite playing home games at Coors Field. He should be a middle-relief option with New York, as they push for the playoffs after the trade deadline.

What does it give the Colorado Rockies
The rebuilding Rockies need young talent, and they did pretty well addressing that in this trade. Riggio was among New York's better infield prospects. A fourth-round pick in 2023, he has good power upside. Shields has solid potential, too, and gives Colorado's organization a left-handed starter to work with.

Fantasy impact
Bird will likely lose some value after this trade, as he may not get many holds in the deep Yankees bullpen. As for the new Rockies prospects, keep an eye on Riggio especially. His stock could be on the rise with a move to Colorado and a future potentially hitting at Coors Field.
