CORREA HEADS BACK TO HOUSTON
The Houston Astros acquired infielder Carlos Correa and cash from the Minnesota Twins for pitcher Matt Mikulski.
What does it give the Houston Astros
Correa will reunite with the Astros after spending four years in Minnesota. It is a risky trade, as he has been having a down year, and is expected to move a new position (third base) to fill in for injured starter Isaac Paredes. Perhaps the homecoming can get Correa back on track. The Twins also sent cash to the Astros, to cover part of Correa's sizeable contract.
What does it give the Minnesota Twins
For the Twins, this trade is a salary dump, as they chose to sell and retool at the trade deadline. Since they were mainly getting rid of Correa's contract, they only got back one player in return. Mikulski is a 26-year-old left-hander who has not had much success in the lower levels of the minors. He will get a fresh start in Minnesota's organization.
Fantasy impact
It has been a disappointing year for Correa after his bounce-back 2024 campaign, but rejoining his former team could give him a boost. He could now be worth a look as a buy-low candidate down the stretch.
