JESUS SANCHEZ SENT TO HOUSTON
The Houston Astros acquired outfielder Jesus Sanchez from the Miami Marlins for pitcher Ryan Gusto, outfielder Esmil Valencia and infielder Chase Jaworsky.
What does it give the Houston Astros
In Sanchez, the Astros bring in a solid outfielder with power, some speed and on-base skills. The lefty-hitting 27-year-old will likely take over the strong side of a platoon in right field. He was hitting .256 with 10 HR and 9 SB in Miami this season. Sanchez could still have untapped upside, too, and he comes with two more years of team control.
What does it give the Miami Marlins
Here, the Marlins add to their pitching depth and prospect pool on offense. Gusto has had a mixed rookie season in Houston, striking out 87 hitters in 86 innings, but posting a 4.92 ERA and 1.43 WHIP. He should get a look with the Marlins this season, but he may have to work out of the bullpen for now. Of the two hitters, Jaworsky is the higher-ranked prospect, one of Houston's better young infielders. Miami is still retooling, and these acqusitions will add potential for coming seasons.
Fantasy impact
Sanchez should get a small boost from this trade, as he moves to a higher-scoring lineup. Gusto may also be worth a look if he joins the Marlins rotation, though he might be of more interest the next few seasons. For Miami, outfielder Jakob Marsee is also an interesting player to stash now. He has 14 HR and 47 SB at Triple-A this year, and could soon get an MLB call-up after Sanchez's departure.
