DUSTIN MAY DEALT TO BOSTON
The Boston Red Sox acquired pitcher Dustin May from the Los Angeles Dodgers for outfielders James Tibbs and Zach Ehrhard.
What does it give the Boston Red Sox
May should be an upgrade for a Red Sox rotation that has struggled with ineffectiveness and injuries this year. The 27-year-old right-hander is settling back in after missing the 2024 season to Tommy John surgery. It has been a somewhat rocky return (4.85 ERA, 1.35 WHIP), but May will get a chance to finish his season strong after this change of scenery.
What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers were able to improve their hitting prospects in the outfield here. Tibbs (recently acquired in the Rafael Devers trade) was one of the better young hitters in Boston's organization, while Ehrhard is a lower-ranking prospect. This could prove to be a smart move by Los Angeles. May was a promising starter for them, but he was on an expiring contract and having a concerning season.
Fantasy impact
May has been shaky, but he remains an interesting fantasy pitcher given his strikeout ability. This fresh start could be what he needs, so he is a good buy-low candidate in some formats. As for the Dodgers outfielders, Tibbs in particular is worth keeping an eye on, but his chance at a call-up will not be helped by joining a team with a deep and talented outfield.
