METS ACQUIRE PAGAN
The New York Mets acquired outfielder Angel Pagan from the Chicago Cubs for pitcher Ryan Meyers and outfielder Corey Coles.
What does it give the New York Mets
Pagan has an outside chance at seeing playing time on the outfield corners in New York, where oft-injured Moises Alou mans left field and the combination of Ryan Church, Carlos Gomez and Endy Chavez will probably compete for playing time in right. Pagan is a former Met who is best suited to a backup role.
What does it give the Chicago Cubs
The Cubs' decision to deal Pagan is great news for young Felix Pie, who may finally get to see regular playing time as Chicago's center-fielder. It would appear that the Cubs' only other alternative would be to move either LF Alfonso Soriano back to center, or try Japanese right-field import Kosuke Fukudome in the middle. With the club now entrusting Pie with center field, they decided to grab two prospects in Meyers and Coles from the Mets for Pagan.
