QB-NEEDY BROWNS PICK UP PICKETT
The Cleveland Browns acquired quarterback Kenny Pickett from the Philadelphia Eagles for quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a fifth-round draft pick in 2025 (No. 165 overall).
What does it give the Cleveland Browns
The Browns could still select a quarterback with the second overall pick in this year's draft, but Pickett gives them options. Although now a journeyman heading to his third NFL team, Pickett is still only 26 years old. Perhaps Cleveland (his third NFL stop) is the right place for him to break through.
What does it give the Philadelphia Eagles
For the Eagles, this deal is mostly an opportunity for Tanner McKee to emerge as Philadelphia's backup quarterback in 2025. He will have competition in the form of Thompson-Robinson, but McKee is the early favorite to back up Jalen Hurts next season. The draft pick acquired is a bonus.
Fantasy impact
McKee is now a solid handcuff for Hurts owners in deep keeper picks. Pickett has a chance to play a lot for the Browns (whether he is the starter or backup) in 2025, but he has limited upside. He is mainly a third option in two-QB leagues. Thompson-Robinson is a long-term project at this point, so he should only be on a roster in very deep dynasty leagues.
