WALLER DEALT TO THE DOLPHINS
The Miami Dolphins acquired tight end Darren Waller and a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2027 from the New York Giants for a sixth-round draft pick in 2026.
What does it give the Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins decided to trade Jonnu Smith, so they needed more help at the tight end position. Enter Waller, who was previously retired after a stint with the Giants. Now he is back as a decent passing option for the pass-heavy Dolphins. Miami could be a good spot for the athletic veteran.
What does it give the New York Giants
The Giants are getting free money here, since Waller was not expected back with the Giants anytime soon. This deal was probably always contingent upon Waller choosing his next NFL destination, which is a slight advantage that recently-retired players have.
Fantasy impact
Waller essentially replaces Jonnu Smith as Miami's top pass-catching tight end for 2025. He could be a decent sleeper draft pick, but he did miss an entire season in 2024 so he may also need some time to get back up to speed. Draft him late.
