CARLO TRADED TO TORONTO
The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired defenseman Brandon Carlo from the Boston Bruins for forward Fraser Minten, a conditional first-round draft pick in 2026, and a fourth-round draft pick in 2025.
What does it give the Toronto Maple Leafs
Carlo, a shutdown defenseman, will strengthen Toronto's blueline. He won't contribute much on offense, but in the bottom four he should be an upgrade on Conor Timmins (who was also dealt in a separate trade). While the Maple Leafs paid a high price to get Carlo, he does come with two more years on a reasonable contract ($4.1M AAV), 15% of which the Bruins also retained.
What does it give the Boston Bruins
The Bruins got a lot of value out of Carlo in this trade. Minten was among Toronto's best prospects, and the 20-year-old center should be ready to join Boston's lineup in the near future. He already posted 4 points in 15 games with Toronto earlier this season. For the Bruins, adding two draft picks, including a first-rounder, makes the deal look even better. Though their defense will take a hit losing Carlo.
Fantasy impact
Carlo is only a factor in very deep leagues that value hits and blocks, and that won't change after this trade. On the other hand, Minten does get a boost. The Bruins just traded away some of their forward depth, so the rookie could get his next chance in the NHL fairly soon. He may not be a big producer right away, but he has a lot of potential for fantasy leagues in coming seasons.
