MERCURI MOVED TO TAMPA BAY

The Tampa Bay Lightning acquired center Lucas Mercuri from the Carolina Hurricanes for a sixth-round draft pick in 2025 (No. 183 overall).

What does it give the Tampa Bay Lightning
Mercuri has size and some scoring ability, so obviously the Lightning liked him enough to send a late pick in this year's draft for his services. Tampa Bay does not have a lot of draft picks, so Mercuri is clearly in their plans.

What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
The Hurricanes were unlikely to sign Mercuri this summer, so they shipped him out in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick in 2025. Carolina is one of the best teams in the NHL at asset management, so it is no surprise that they got something here.

Fantasy impact
Keep an eye on Mercuri's progress once he joins the Lightning organization. Tampa Bay is a veteran-laden squad, but they do tend to make room for certain select players (e.g. Gage Goncalves this season).
