TARASOV TRADED TO FLORIDA
The Florida Panthers acquired goaltender Daniil Tarasov from the Columbus Blue Jackets for a fifth-round draft pick in 2025 (No. 160 overall).
What does it give the Florida Panthers
This trade makes sense. Tarasov was drafted by Columbus in 2017 when Florida GM Bill Zito was still with the Blue Jackets, so he knows the goaltender well. Tarasov, a restricted free agent, will not be able to command much on his next deal.
What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
For the Blue Jackets, this deal also makes sense for them because Jet Greaves looks ready for a regular job in the NHL. Now, Columbus does not have to worry about Tarasov's next contract. Are the Jackets done dealing goaltenders? Hmm.
Fantasy impact
Tarasov could not have been moved to a better spot from a fantasy perspective. In South Florida, he will slot behind Sergei Bobrovsky (another former Blue Jackets goaltender) and learn the ropes as the understudy. At worst, Tarasov is a great handcuff option for all Bobrovsky owners.
