SOURDIF SENT TO WASHINGTON

The Washington Capitals acquired winger Justin Sourdif from the Florida Panthers for a second-round draft pick in 2026 and a sixth-round draft pick in 2027.

What does it give the Washington Capitals
Sourdif adds some forward depth for the Capitals. The 23-year-old has just four games of NHL experience, but he has produced well in the AHL. A restricted free agent, Sourdif could challenge for a bottom-six forward role with Washington this season. They must like his potential, considering they traded two draft picks (including a second-rounder) to get him.

What does it give the Florida Panthers
Florida traded a number of draft picks in a series of recent deals to defend their Stanley Cup, so this trade got them a couple of picks back. Sourdif was probably a long shot to make their NHL lineup this season, too. Instead, the Panthers will add some younger prospects in the next few drafts–that is, if they end up keeping these picks.

Fantasy impact
Sourdif will be trying to win an NHL job with the Capitals this season, so he is not on the fantasy radar for now. Still, he could have some potential as a late-blooming winger. Keep an eye on him in Washington.
