COYLE BROUGHT IN BY THE BLUE JACKETS

The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired center Charlie Coyle and winger Miles Wood from the Colorado Avalanche for forward Gavin Brindley, a third-round draft pick in 2025 (No. 77 overall) and a conditional second-round draft pick in 2027.

What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
In Coyle, the Blue Jackets add a veteran right-shooting center with plenty of experience and two-way acumen. He will likely slot in on the third line and be used on the penalty kill. Wood is an energy forward with modest offensive talent. He is a big body, though. Wood could help the Jackets.

What does it give the Colorado Avalanche
For the Avalanche, this trade is mainly about getting two salaries off the books. Colorado had the need to create some cap space in order to improve the roster, so Coyle and Wood were sacrificed. Brindley is a decent prospect coming off a sputtering first pro campaign. He has some upside.

Fantasy impact
Coyle's fantasy value should remain the same regardless of where he plays. He is a classic third-line center, no more and no less. Wood is mostly a fourth-line winger at this point, so he does not need to be added this year. As for Brindley, he is still young enough to emerge as a decent prospect for the Avs. Keep an eye on him.
