JOHN GIBSON GOES TO DETROIT

The Detroit Red Wings acquired goaltender John Gibson from the Anaheim Ducks for goaltender Petr Mrazek, a fourth-round draft pick in 2026 and a second-round draft pick in 2027.

What does it give the Detroit Red Wings
The Red Wings have reportedly been after Gibson for quite some time now, so they finally got their man. The 32-year-old veteran is signed for two more seasons, so Detroit hopes he can backstop them back into the Stanley Cup playoffs before his contract expires.

What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks are committed to Lukas Dostal as their No. 1 goaltender, so this move cements that notion. Mrazek, a fellow Czech netminder, should be a good backup for Dostal. Mrazek is entering the final year of his contract, so he should be plenty motivated throughout 2025-26.

Fantasy impact
Gibson should see more action in Detroit as the new No. 1 netminder there. As a result, his fantasy value is also on the rise. Meanwhile, Mrazek should now be reduced to handcuff status in most fantasy formats.
