HURRICANES PICK UP PRIMEAU
The Carolina Hurricanes acquired goaltender Cayden Primeau from the Montreal Canadiens for a seventh-round draft pick in 2026.
What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
Primeau provides the Hurricanes with depth in goal. Frederik Andersen and Pyotr Kochetkov are signed for the 2025-26 season, so Primeau will likely be an AHL goaltender (or third-string option) for Carolina. The 25-year-old still has potential but he struggled in limited NHL playing time last season (4.70 GAA, .836 Sv% in 11 games).
What does it give the Montreal Canadiens
Primeau had a disappointing 2024-25 season, in which Jakub Dobes outperformed him and became the backup to Sam Montembeault in Montreal. Primeau likely did not have much of a future with the Canadiens as a result. That said, the Habs were at least able to get an asset for him, even if it is just a seventh-round draft pick in next year's selection process.
Fantasy impact
This trade will not have much of a fantasy impact. If Primeau spends any time with the Hurricanes, it will likely be as a backup (in case of an injury to Andersen or Kochetkov).
