K'ANDRE MILLER TO THE 'CANES
The Carolina Hurricanes acquired defenseman K'Andre Miller from the New York Rangers for defenseman Scott Morrow, a conditional first-round draft pick in 2026 and a second-round draft pick in 2026.
What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
The Hurricanes get a massive blueline upgrade in Miller, a player who can do a little bit of everything on the ice. Still young (25), Miller is not a finished product but he already has plenty of NHL experience. He could be used on the first pairing with Jaccob Slavin in Carolina, or perhaps on the second unit. This trade is expensive for the Hurricanes, but necessary in their quest to supplant Florida in the Eastern Conference.
What does it give the New York Rangers
The Rangers had no desire to re-sign Miller, at least according to reports. Therefore, they got three solid assets in return. Morrow is a developing offensive rearguard who may need to wait his turn in New York, since they already boast three right defensemen ahead of him on the depth chart. The first-rounder is top-10 protected in 2026, and the better of Carolina's two first-rounders (their own or the Stars' pick) will go to New York.
Fantasy impact
Miller's fantasy stock should be boosted by this move, especially if he is paired with Slavin–arguably the best defensive defenseman in the game. Draft Miller in the later rounds this year. As for Morrow, fantasy owners must continue to be patient with him. There is currently no path for Morrow to make a fantasy impact in New York.
