DUMBA DUMPED BY DALLAS TO PITTSBURGH

The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired defenseman Mathew Dumba and a second-round draft pick in 2028 from the Dallas Stars for defenseman Vladislav Kolyachonok.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
The retooling Penguins will take on the last year of Dumba's contract, which allowed them to add a decent draft pick (a second-rounder). Dumba might still get playing time in a bottom-four role with Pittsburgh, but the veteran will have to compete with several other depth defenders this season.

What does it give the Dallas Stars
For the Stars, this trade was mainly a salary dump. Moving Dumba freed up a valuable $3.75M in cap space ahead of the new season. Kolyachonok also gives them a younger defenseman. The 24-year-old is now onto his fourth NHL team, though he has shown some promise as a two-way defender. He should compete for a depth role this season.

Fantasy impact
This trade will not have a fantasy impact. Dumba is no longer much of a contributor on offense, and Kolyachonok hasn't produced well early in his NHL career (14 points in 74 games). There are better options.
