THRUN FOR REAVES
The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired defenseman Henry Thrun from the San Jose Sharks for right-winger Ryan Reaves.
What does it give the Toronto Maple Leafs
Toronto will buy low on Thrun, a young depth defenseman who struggled in San Jose. The Maple Leafs could use another puck-mover (like Thrun), so he might prove to be a useful addition. However, the 24-year-old will need to be much more consistent after the change of scenery.
What does it give the San Jose Sharks
The Sharks add Reaves as a depth option at right wing. The 38-year-old enforcer will not play a big role in San Jose's lineup, but he might slot in on the fourth line occasionally. He will also provide leadership and toughness to a young Sharks team.
Fantasy impact
This trade will not change much in fantasy hockey. Thrun has not been a point producer on defense, and that's unlikely to change in Toronto. As for Reaves, he no longer puts up enough penalty minutes to have any value in fantasy leagues.
