SILOVS SENT TO PITTSBURGH

The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired goaltender Arturs Silovs from the Vancouver Canucks for winger Chase Stillman and a fourth-round draft pick in 2027.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
In Silovs, the Penguins add a young goaltender who is still trying to prove himself at the NHL level. The 24-year-old shined in the AHL again this year, leading the Abbotsford Canucks to a Calder Cup win. Pittsburgh's goaltending is a question mark heading into 2025-26, too. Silovs should now challenge Tristan Jarry and Joel Blomqvist for starts, and he could get a long look in goal this season.

What does it give the Vancouver Canucks
This year, Vancouver committed long term to their tandem of Thatcher Demko and Kevin Lankinen, which blocked Silovs from NHL playing time. They didn't get a lot in return for him, but Stillman was a recent first-round pick (in 2021). A scrappy winger, he has struggled to produce points over two seasons in the AHL. He is still just 22 years old and will get another fresh start with the Canucks. They also picked up a fourth-rounder in the trade.

Fantasy impact
Silovs gets an immediate boost from this trade, as he will have a real chance to become an NHL goalie this season in Pittsburgh. Still, he has been inconsistent in limited NHL experience, and defense could be a struggle for the Penguins this season. Wait and see how the year starts for Silovs in most fantasy leagues. As for Stillman, he has yet to make his NHL debut, and he is not on the fantasy radar.
