Verlander (1-8) earned the win against Atlanta on Wednesday, allowing one hit and five walks while striking out three over five scoreless innings.
Verlander (0-8) took the loss Friday, giving up four runs on nine hits and two walks over 2.2 innings as the Giants fell 4-0 to the Blue Jays. He failed to strike out a batter.
The big right-hander can still pop the radar gun on occasion with a quick, compact delivery, while also featuring devastating off-speed stuff. Eats up a lot of innings and saves his best work for crunch time. Surrenders a few too many homers. Also, his fastball tends to straighten out a bit too much from time to time. His heavy workload is starting to affect him, as he is not nearly as dominant as he used to be.
