Scherzer (thumb) is listed as the Blue Jays' probable starter for Friday's game against the Athletics in Sacramento.
Scherzer gave up two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four over four innings Sunday in a no-decision against the Angels and dealt with significant thumb inflammation during the start, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Can be overpowering and downright nasty at times. Also has the stuff to intimidate batters consistently with strikeouts. Has a great pitchers' frame. Has learned how to become a big winner in MLB. Gets into trouble when he loses focus and the command of his fastball, which can lead to too many walks. Must avoid the big inning against him. Has the tendency to surrender a few too many homers.
Long Range Potential: Elite right-hander in decline.
