ANGELS ADD CHAFIN, GARCIA
The Los Angeles Angels acquired pitchers Andrew Chafin and Luis Garcia from the Washington Nationals for pitcher Jake Eder and first baseman Sam Brown.
What does it give the Los Angeles Angels
The Angels are trying to stay in the American League Wild Card race, and this trade will improve their bullpen. Chafin, a veteran left-hander, has pitched well this season, while Garcia, a veteran right-hander, was able to turn his season around after joining the Nationals this month. They will be upgrades on some of the middle relievers Los Angeles had been relying on.
What does it give the Washington Nationals
The Nationals will take a chance on Eder, a former top prospect who has struggled and is transitioning to the bullpen. Eder had a 4.91 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in only 8 games with the Angels, but he could get a longer look in the near future. As for Brown, he is a first base prospect currently at Double-A Ball. He hasn't produced much offense but does have a strong .350 OBP this year. For Washington, this return offers depth and some modest potential.
Fantasy impact
There will not be much fantasy impact from this trade. At best, Chafin or Garcia might register the occasional hold with the Angels, but there is not a lot of upside otherwise. Eder's struggles have taken him right off the fantasy radar.
