ANGELS TAKE A SHOT WITH GIAVOTELLA
The Los Angeles Angels acquired infielder Johnny Giavotella from the Kansas City Royals for pitcher Brian Broderick.
What does it give the Los Angeles Angels
The Angels traded second baseman {P Howie Kendrick} to the Dodgers earlier in the off-season, so they're looking for depth options in case new starter {P Josh Rutledge} struggles in 2015. Giavotella can hit at the Triple-A level, so he might get a shot at some point. He's 27 years old and needs to catch a break soon.
What does it give the Kansas City Royals
The Royals had designated Giavotella for assignment, mostly because they're happy with veteran {P Omar Infante} at second base. Therefore, they shipped him to LA for Broderick, a hard-throwing right-hander who might find his way into the Royals' bullpen at some point in 2015.
Fantasy impact
Giavotella remains a fantasy dark horse. He has talent but time is running out on his chances of becoming an everyday second baseman in MLB. As for Broderick, he's an even bigger fantasy dark horse going into 2015.
