PITTSBURGH PICKS UP WR METCALF
The Pittsburgh Steelers acquired wide receiver DK Metcalf and a seventh-round draft pick in 2025 from the Seattle Seahawks for a second-round draft pick in 2025 (No. 52 overall) and a sixth-round draft pick in 2025.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Steelers
This is a very risky move by the Steelers, who also signed Metcalf to a new five-year contract worth $150 million. There is no denying Metcalf's talent, and lining him up opposite George Pickens could create defensive nightmares for opponents. That said, both wide receivers are very mercurial, so can head coach Mike Tomlin keep them grounded? Also, who will be throwing the football to these two mega talents?
What does it give the Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks are turning over a new leaf in 2025, moving on from offensive staples Geno Smith (QB, traded to Las Vegas), wide receiver Tyler Lockett (released) and now Metcalf. Landing the 52nd overall pick for Metcalf should be good for them, but more help is now in order at the wide receiver positions. Jaxon Smith-Njigba is going to emerge as a true No. 1 wideout in 2025, but he cannot do it alone.
Fantasy impact
This is not a great situation for Metcalf from a fantasy standpoint no matter who is brought in to quarterback the Steelers. Pittsburgh's mission is to be a run-first offense, and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith will always abide by it. Also, Pickens needs targets as well. So, buy low on Metcalf in most fantasy drafts this year (or do not buy him at all).
