Metcalf said at mandatory minicamp that while establishing a rapport with new quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the veteran signal-caller's "playmaking ability after a play breaks down" and "how quickly he releases the ball" have both stood out, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports.
Metcalf was traded to the Steelers in exchange for a second round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, before signing five-year, $150 million contract Sunday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
The son of a former NFL lineman Terry Metcalf, he is an eye-popping blend of quickness and brawn the sum of which is a force of nature. Oozes power and physical dominance thanks to a cyborg-like frame, blazing speed and sheer athletic talent. Can amass chunks of yardage as a downfield threat or mid-range target. Presents a persistent mismatch issue due to superior length and strength; he screens defenders from the ball, breaks tackles and defies containment in the open field. Played only two college seasons, so he could use more work on his route-running skills. His high-maintenance physique may be somewhat prone to injury at the highest level.
Long Range Potential: Talented, big-play wide receiver with good upside.
