SAM HOWELL HEADS TO MINNESOTA

The Minnesota Vikings acquired quarterback Sam Howell and a fifth-round draft pick in 2025 (No. 172 overall) from the Seattle Seahawks for a fifth-round draft pick in 2025 (No. 142 overall).

What does it give the Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings were in the market for a backup quarterback this off-season, so bringing in journeyman Howell makes some sense. J.J. McCarthy is expected to be Minnesota's starting QB in 2025 but Howell offers both NFL experience and a little untapped upside.

What does it give the Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks brought in former Vikings starting QB Sam Darnold to be their new starter earlier this off-season, then drafted Jalen Milroe as a potential quarterback of the future. Therefore, Howell became expendable and was shipped to Minny for a swap of fifth-rounders.

Fantasy impact
Howell has been rather inconsistent in the NFL, but his fantasy fortunes have improved with the move to Minnesota. Fantasy leaguers who decide to draft McCarthy in 2025 may want to consider Howell as a handcuff.
