Ponomarev signed a three-year contract with the KHL's Avangard Omsk on Wednesday, per Seth Rorabaugh of Tribune-Review Sports.
Ponomarev was reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday.
Very slick and creative with the puck, he oozes playmaking acumen from the center position. He also displays a very heavy shot, which could play well as a winger in the pro game. He is not overly big but is sturdy with a strong lower base. Also displays the competitive fire to succeed, which all coaches love to see. Needs to improve his defensive game and bulk up in order to maximize output at the highest level. Is not an elite skater but makes up for it with his offensive instincts.
Long Range Potential: Quality, versatile offensive forward with upside.
